Eat Wisely

Ensure post-partum diet provides sufficient nutrition and nourishment for the weakened body constitution as well as for lactation purpose.
Choose healthy food that are high in nutrition and fibre but low on GI and fats to ensure speedy recuperation and maintain healthy weight.

 

Eating Pattern

The stomach is relatively weak after childbirth so it is best to take smaller meals but more frequently. Over-eating may cause indigestion, diarrhoea and constipation.
 

CONFINEMENT DO's AND DON'Ts


Ginger, Glutinous Rice Water
Consume more ginger and glutinous rice water as they are effective in warming the body and the uterus. They can also promote blood circulation and increase the body resistance.
 

Avoid Oily and Cold Food
Select easily digestible food to ensure good absorption. Avoid eating hard, oily and spicy food as they may cause burden to the stomach. Do not consume cold and uncooked food.
 

Avoid Excessive Tonics
Eat too much tonics will hinder the discharge of blood stasis and lochia, thus weaken the body. It is recommended to consume tonic only after the discharge is dispelled completely.
 

No Smoking and Drinking
Do not smoke and drink. Avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee or tea. Avoid processed food such as pickled products, processed meats and etc.
 

Medication
Do not self-medicate. Ensure all medicine are prescribed by a doctor as certain drugs may not be suitable for breastfeeding mothers.
